In 1987 a group of young men interested in playing American Football, banded together to form a team to play in the recently established “Queensland Gridiron Football League” or QGFL . Little did these guys know what they had started and the Gold Coast Stingrays Dynasty had begun. In their first year of competition, they tasted success in claiming the QGFL Charity Bowl, their first piece of “silverware”, the first of many to come.
The Stingrays success is well documented, In the 31 years to date there was only one year that the team missed making it to the play-offs, 1989. The Senior Men’s team have been Minor Premiers 11 times – 1996, 2003, 2005-2007, 2009, 2010, 2012-2016. They have appeared in 19 Sunbowl Championship games, winning 15 of them in 1994, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2006-2009, 2011-2017.
The reason for their success is hard work and dedication from all involved. From the coaches to the players, and the volunteers all having the same goal and the right attitude to always strive to be the best they can be, this group of men will continue to dominate this sport.
